Manic Monday – A Hot Soapy

If you’re life is anything like mine, Monday’s can be, well, a bit…manic. So, in hopes of starting the week off on a good note, I’m going to start a weekly Manic Monday post. Here I will post tips, hints, tricks, etc that I have either learned, heard, or want to try to help things run a bit smoother throughout the week. So, here’s today’s tip:

A Hot Soapy!

No, it’s not some kind of daytime TV show. It’s something I learned from my friend, Marilyn. I have this neat little side sink next to my kitchen sink. I think it’s a little vegetable sink or something. I use it as my Hot Soapy place. With 5 of us around the house all day, and 3 out of 5 of us being under the age of 7, spills, drips, drops and messes are a daily occurrence. I was burning through rolls of paper towels, or using up every kitchen towel I had. Now, thanks to the Hot Soapy, I have disinfection ready at all times without wasting trees or money on more paper towels or cleaning wipes.

I fill the side sink with hot water (as hot as I can stand) with a drop or two of dish soap (you could use a bowl, pot, plastic tub, etc if you don’t want to use your sink). Not enough to need rinsing after a wipe down, but enough to get the job done. Then I put a dishrag (any rag would suffice, even a cloth diaper). I leave it there all day so I’m armed and ready when spills and drips occur. Somedays it gets used a lot, others only once or twice. I’ll add more hot water if needed, or change it completely if needed. It has saved my sanity countless times! I will warn, however, that if you’re not a natural neat person (like me!), this method can backfire. I have been known to forget about my Hot Sopay and rediscover it a day or two later…I don’t recommend that. 🙂 So, there you go. It may be a bit of an “oh duh” for most of you, but I found it so helpful!

What do you do to make spill clean ups easier/more efficient?
